Hello Jess. I am sorry to hear about your nanny. It is never easy when we lose someone we love.

I have been looking at poems on the internet. I typed in 'poem for funeral grandparent' as a search and it came up with some very nice verses.

Have you thought about writing a little verse yourself.? It could be quite simple but would be very personal and would express your true feelings for your Nanny.

Best wishes at this difficult time.

Hello Jess, I'm so very sorry to hear you've lost your nanny, and I know it's a hard time, but try to keep your chin up, won't you.

I like Lottie's idea of writing a little verse yourself. However, if you don't feel like it, perhaps this will help.

You can shed tears that she is gone - or you can smile because she lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back - or you can open them and see all she has left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see her - or it can be full of the love you shared.

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday - or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember her and only that she's gone - or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.

Keep beautiful memories in your heart, Jess, and keep smiling. Lots of love to you. Naomi x
Jess, you got two lovely replies to your question. I couldnt suggest anything anywhere near as good.

HI Jess, I am sorry that someone thinks your nanny dying is funny....

the poem ......google Auden - stop all the clocks

Verses 1 and 4 - very few people will notice you have missed out a bit.

poemhunter.com lists a lot, and then put in
Donne/Carew/suckling/southwell

since you a young girl and she was old, any poem in this lot which are called metaphysical will fit in nicely
Hey SupaStar - you sh*thead. So you are a 28-year-old and talk to a grieving child in that manner. If only you had the guts to top yourself - a lot of people here would not grieve.
not funny Supa star!!!!
This is a popular poem Jessica called "Do not stand at my grave and weep". I read it at both my nan and grandad's funerals.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I did not die.

I'm very sorry for your loss sweetie.
A light from our family is gone
A voice we loved is stilled
A place is vacant in the home
Which never can be filled

We have to mourn the loss of one
We would've loved to keep
But God who surely loved her best
Has finally made her sleep

My daughter read this at my nanas funeral. so sorry for your loss.

After a lifetime of her love and joy
And music to fill our ears
God leaves these wondrous memories
To help us through our tears
Sorry to hear of your loss heres two poems used on my Grandads memorial site. My thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time

You were so full of life,
Always smiling and carefree,
Life loved you being a part of it,
And I loved you being a part of me.
You could make anyone laugh,
If they were having a bad day,
No matter how sad I was,
You could take the hurt away.
Nothing could ever stop you,
Or even make you fall,
You were ready to take on the world,
Ready to do it all.
But God decided he needed you,
So from this world you left,
But you took a piece of all of us,
Our hearts are what you kept.
Your seat is now empty,
And it's hard not to see your face,
But please always know this,
No one will ever take your place.
You left without a warning,
Not even saying good-bye,
And I can't seem to stop,
Asking the question why?
Nothing will ever be the same,
The halls are empty without your laughter,
But I know you're in Heaven,
Watching over us and looking after.
I didn't see this coming,
It hit me by surprise,
And when you left this world,
A small part of me died.
Your smile could brighten anyone's day,
No matter what they were going through,
And I know everyday for the rest of my life,
I'll be missing you.

A rose once grew
where all could see,
sheltered beside
a garden wall,
And as the days passed
swiftly by,
it spread its branches, straight and tall...
One day, a beam of light
shone through
a crevice that had
opened wide ~
The rose bent gently
toward its warmth
then passed beyond
to the other side
Now, you who deeply
feel its loss,
be comforted ~ the rose
ROAD LESS TRAVELED

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth

Then took the other as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet, knowing how way leads onto way
I doubted if I should ever come back

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence
Two roads diverged in a wood
And I took the one less traveled by
And that has made all the difference

Hi Jessie - I'm very sorry to hear about your Nanny passing away. Apart from the meaningful poems on this thread, there are also some lovely ones to be found on the internet. I wish you & your family well. -xx-

Superstar - I think you should change your username to something more appropriate!

Smudge, I think it was half term last week, and possibly Superstar is just an immature child who thought they were being funny. If Superstar is an adult, well words then fail me!
Yes, I did wonder Lottie! I'm glad to see the offending post has disappeared, hopefully along with Superstar.

Hope you found the poem you were looking for Jessie. -x-
