The roost at the RSPB where I do volunteer wardening has dispersed now. Most will be heading back to their summer quarters in Eastern Europe. However I have to agree that the aerial display at a starling roost is certainly WOW and smething that everyone should see at leat once- even if they have very little interest in birds.
Agree 100% burnhal. Mr. yogasun takes groups to the Somerset Levels to experience it though we have some starling activity here in E. Devon, or did have. Both my husband and son are very experienced 'birders' but even non birders find the spectacle awesome.
Still got plenty round my way, but they're practising their displays in small groups. They should be off soon, and then we'll get the house martins and swallows. Lovely.
Here in Cumbria we have the starlings back this year after quite a few years without. The display reminds me of the weird black thing in Lost. Wonderfully hypnotic to watch.
