I loaned my car to somebody who was involved in a RTA. I believe he were driving under the influence of drink. The police were involved. My only hope is that nobody was injured. I've since seen my car and it is definately a write off.
The driver at the time was covered on my comprehensive insurance. I'm presuming he was over the legal limit to drive. Does this make my insurance nul and void? How does this effect my insurance? When i get another vehicle i will not put him on my insurance, do I still have to declare this?
Unless he was a named driver on your policy, he would have been driving with third party cover only, so your car will not be covered if the accident was his fault - regardless of whether he was drunk or not.
Your insurance will pay for damage he caused to other vehicles, but not yours.
