What always surprises me is the fact that there are so many people craving celebrity these days with no credibility or talent on shows such as big brother. Then people who sail into the public eye with a totally natural talent have all this burden to bear. I suppose to some extent they are thrust into that world and not all people can handle it.
That goal was brilliant wardy, that is the trouble Beetle, so many people now want 5 minutes of fame, I would rather keep my head down and retain a bit of sanity
The media here do put so much pressure on anybody that becomes a little bit known, then they build them up to knock them down, and as you say many can't handle it, it is sad.

It is perfectly possible to have a wonderous talent as an artist, and still be an utter muppet as a human being. The problem is, the rewards of the former are seriously bad for the latter - bad behaviour and personal abuse are tolerated by lackeys who have a vested interest in the 'celebrity' staying just as they are.
You can track it back to movie stars of the thirties and forties, and as for musicians, you can go back to the 1800's, and Niccolo Pagannini - the original rock star who descended into a morass of drink and drugs because of his fame and adulation.

Now then... from a female point of view - and one who has ZERO interest in sport (I know - I apologise) I only remember Gazza as being a 'wife-beater' (I think that's what was quoted at the time) and not as a talented man.
NOT that I'm saying he wasn't - I have no idea about that.
And I'm certainly not saying he 'deserves' to end up in this way before anyone starts :0)
I think it a terrible shame that anyone has mental health problems - perhaps he's had them for many years?

Hello andy and WP, thanks andy very well said, and so true, WP, I had forgotten about that, no excuse for anybody hitting a lady, I do think he has had problems fror many years, but that episode is unforgiveable, it makes me feel sick, the talent he had was when he was on the pitch, take him off the pitch and turn the floodlights off and things change, I just find it a bit sad to end up like that.

I'm female, and I remember Gazza for the brilliant goal and the abuse of his wife. I don't know much about him otherwise.
I've always found it so sad that so many talented individuals seem to lose the plot eventually. Why do the people around them not do more to help? I was watching a documentary about Elvis the other day, and it was tragic really. Everyone said they were too scared to tell Elvis he was killing himself.
Britney and Amy are classic examples right now.
