Help needed re tabs opening automatically

I dont know what I have done, but since early this week my internet explorer keeps opening a new tab automatically and it is for 'adverts' such as this

does anyone know how I can stop this?

Press the Alt + T to get to the tools menu, and then select "Internet Options". At the bottom of the window that appears, select "Settings" (by "Tabs") and then click "Restore defaults".
