I have to apologise for OBonio's outburst. She/he quite rightly said  that the things you were asking about were operating systems but I felt that s(he) somehow failed to explain what was what!! Gosh! How rude some can be?

Here is the answer to the things you asked:

HP-UX - is quite obviously the version of UNIX designed by Hewlett-Packard to work with their PA-RISC and 68xx based machines. This is an old operating system that became obsolete by the advent of:-

Unix!  Unix is the OS that all newcomers  would like to be. (The Madonna of the OS's). Unfortunately along came Lynux (owned by Google)

Linux is the poor persons Unix although all linux folk would say they were best. (It's a bit like comparing Madge with Brittany). The only thing that Linux have going for them is Red Hat but it's your guess as to which version they want you to know about!

VMS. Ah, VMS. You will, I've no doubt, remember the argument between the Beta and the VMS video system. As you well know; the VMS system prevailed but you can still get videos on the beta versions.

And then we get the Windows. Your question detailed the 2000, 2003 server and the CE editions reasoning that there were fundamental differences? Sorry but no. Once again, MS proved with these three excellent examples that you can get money for nothing.

Windows 2000 was a nice attempt at proving 98 was wrong via ME

2003 Server is still around but we call it XP and a bit

CE is ace!
