What is the cost?

I don't have any pets but I was wondering for those who have cats and dogs. How much does it cost per year to feed them and look after them?

Our three dogs and three cats do extremely well on a diet composed of mainly 'dry' food. A sack of Field and Trial Maintenance for dogs costs about 12 and lasts the three dogs about three weeks. The largest has 3 cups a day and the smallest a cup and a half. (i.e. labrador and bedlington). So it's not a lot! Mind you, vet bills more than make up for these savings! A cut leg three months ago ended up costing over 200. Actually, the cats are more expensive. Their food needs are different and their dried food costs more per head. Also, they eat like pigs!
I wouldn't be without my cat, Barney. He cost me approx:
On going costs: 2 per week in Cat Litter, approx 5 per week on food, 7 per month in Pet Insurance, 13.50 per quarter for flea treatment
'one off' costs: 33.50 for intial shots when he was a kitten (boosters required next year), 22.50 to be neutered, plus money to buy a scratch post, litter tray, food bowls, collar, cat flap, bed, toys, treats etc etc
He's been worth every penny!
