What is the link between Iolanthe by Gilbert and Sullivan and Dafne, the first true opera ever written?

I had no idea, but did some research on the web and found the following.

Dafne was written by Jacopo Peri.

And Iolanthe is also known as The Peer and the Peri.

So the link could be Peri.
I'm glad someone answered this. I pondered, but had no idea what the connection was. Well done, VHG.
