A lot of features today in the papers about
getting rid of plastic bags should supermarkets, ,
shops etc ban them, Lidls encourage everyone
to bring their own carrier bags, I think they
should be banned They cause unneccesary
litter, I used mine for dustbin liners but they,re
not all biogradable

Yes agree, they should all be banned. We're now of an age where re-usable bags cost next to nothing to buy and available everywhere.

At work, it never fails to amaze me the amount of customers who expect a carrier bag even if they're just buying a newspaper.

I read a really good article in the a section of The Times recently (can't find the right article via google) that argued for charging for them and showed how in places (US I think) where introducing this had a huge effect on the amount of plastic bags in landfill. I did find an article though that said 4 billion bags are sent to landfill each year from London alone. Gawd know how many are stuck in trees!

Hi Mary T, I absolutely agree with you.
It's so wasteful to take a carrier for one or two items, or to just use carriers and throw them away. We always re-use any carriers we take, but whenever we remember, we take out "proper" bags-shoppers, foldaways etc., that we can use over and over again.

When i worked in a shop, I used to ask customers if they were sure they wanted a bag, and I got so many filthy looks and "Are you stupid?" answers!

If I forgot a bundle of bags, I would be happy to pay for carriers-it would serve as a reminder for next time!! x
