I urgently need to change the file extension of a document i created in Microsoft Works Word Processor (XP Home Edition) and have no idea about how to do this. It needs to be changed to a Word document. Somebody please help!!!!! TIA.
ok, i have done the rich text format and changed the filename and saved but i dont think we have microsoft word on this computer which is why i didnt create it in word to start with....so does that affect the last step there Cockney_si ? in mydocuments now the symbol for the document is the rich text format....if that makes a difference? sorry im totally clueless with this!
One way of renaming a file is to use Dos. First you need to find the directory the file is in using windows. Then run CMD to get into Dos. Then change the directory to where the file is stored. Then rename the oldfile to the newfile with the different extension.
carmac06, once you have saved the file as an RTF, it will be possible for anyone using Word to open, read and edit it, regardless of whether or not you have Word.
sp1214, as has already been pointed out, simply renaming the file with a different extension will not actually change the format of the file, so is a totally pointless exercise.
I can't afford Word so I got Open Office which is a free download and works with Word documents as well as its own format. Hope this helps
