can i play devils advocate here and suggest that we post questions on here to get a wide range of responses, not just ones we agree with. if we don't like a post/answer or find it annoying then can't we just ignore it?

can i also add that if a group of people wanted to exclude a person for whatever reason couldn't that be bullying?

e.g. if you don't like my responses a few could say lets just ignore her and she'll go away...but would that be fair?

I see your point, and to an extent I agree with it, however, it's been proposed that the person being ignored would would not be invisible to every user on the site/post, only to the people involved.
For example, if I was being wound up by another ABer (lets call him/her userA) then I could use the Ignore user option and userA would be invisible only to me
oh i see, that makes much more sense. however, can you not choose to just ignore their posts anyway. if someone is winding you up, you should just ignore them...isn't that the best revenge...them knowing they are being ignored?

True, but how many time have you seen a perfectly good thread ruined by a petty argument? and yes, I'm as guilty as the next person, to be brutally honest, more guilty than most. This option would spare others having to trawl through the my dad's bigger than your dad' stuff that goes on here
