right of way
i was walking along a residential road this morning and a woman was just about to pull into her drive - therefore crossing the pavement - but as i was pushing a buggy the buggy was already part over the entrance to her drive i carried on - she then shouted a load of abuse about how ignorant i was. my question is therefore - as a pedestrian on a pavement do i have the right of way over a car wishing to access the pavement to get into the driveway. i was under the impression drivers are to be aware of pedestrians etc...

I also have 'dropped kerbs' so that I can cross the pavement and park in front of my house and although I cannot remember the exact wording I have to exercise all due diligence and care when crossing the pavement area.
The driver was being a 'numpty' which is not unusual these days.

The highway code is quite clear on this "Give way to pedestrians crossing where you are turning into" it use to be one of the clauses under rule 146.
It's a amazing how many cars do not know this.
For information, there is no such thing as "Right of way" it does not exist in the highway code it is a common myth. However the highway code does tell you when you should give way to others.

I know it is petty BUT you could report them for this incident , the old bill would just advise them that pedestrians do have a right of way , it is a pavement for pedestrians not a roadway . if her car is over hanging the pavement as well when parked as some do she should also be told she could be liable if someone was to bump themselves on it ......
tell the plod, get them to speak to her. if she is such an ignorant cow them she deserves a bit of hassle.
also, what if next time she hits the buggy or runs into someone 'cos she's in such a rush?
i dented the roof of a car that cut across a zebra crossing as i pushed my daughter in her buggy years ago. i managed to spot the car turning into the road where the crossing is and yanked my girl backwards and then as i jumped back myself i managed to get a whack on the roof. the woman stopped about fifty yards down the road had a quick look and zoomed off before i got near. i think she knew i would have smacked her one if i'd got to her. no one nearly runs my daughter over and gets away with it !!!!
