Looking to buy an old Mini for my first car, have found on one on the net and it says the only hitch is that it may need the carburettors balanced. . .anyone have an idea of how much this would cost me? Thanks to all

Not much, you can even buy a DIY kit.

Garage charge around 50 if you can find one that will do it because modern garages don't really have the equipment now, you would have to go to a specialist tuning garage.
Contact a Mini owners club who will probably put you in touch with someone. MGB owners club would also be able to help. Both vehicles were initially fitted with twin SU carbs which, if you know what you are doing, are quite easy to balance.
depending on the model,it might only be a single carb.if it is twin carbs then a company from bow, london called gunsons make a "carb balancer" kit ,which,i have used for about 20 years ,its brilliant..
