They can be, sleepy. I know a lady who was really worried about some personal stuff. She wrote to Deirdre Sanders at The Sun (yes, I know!), and received a lovely, helpful letter back. This was followed up by a second one, asking her if the position'd got any better.
I wrote to Claire Rayner once and she was very helpful. I've never written a problem page but would love to!

No never done it, the poor people that come on here for advice must go away very confused eh. :-)
Yes, years ago when I started experiencing domestic violence off my husband
They were really good as made me realise it wasn't my fault and gave me the appropriate information to get the help I needed

Years ago I once wrote to Marge Proops, pretending to be my male business partner. The gist of the letter was that he had these uncontrollable urges to wear his wife's clothes & undies.
The reply letter gave him the address of the Beaumont Society for transvestites, and she gave him some in depth advice.
Unfortunately he was abroad on holiday when the reply came, and he'd instructed his mother in law to open his mail.

Ooops.
