What is the point in banning people from this site....

There are absolutely no previous questions by WardMinter (or any of his previous aliases) or R1Guy, but both are allowed back under different names.

The Ed must know who they are (everyone else does).

If you are going to ban someone, why not ban their MAC or IP address to prevent them re registering.

Certain users are allowed to post nasty posts whenever they want. The name gets banned? So what, it takes 2 minutes to make a new one.

you may not agree with them but that is not a reason to ban them. The 2 you mention may publish extreme views in a robust style but they are usually not directly abusive. In the cyber world of free speech we have to accept others may have extreme and contrary views. Just ignore them, you encourage them by playing the "outraged of Tunbridge Wells" card, dont give them the "oxygen"!

I didn't ban them and I haven't said that I agree with their banning.

But the point is, why ban someone (and all their previous posts) if you will keep letting them come back under a different name

There is an alternative. If instead of using pseudo names they were made to use a real name. How many would object to this, I wonder. What has anybody got to hide? I believe the real reason is because however sincerely put there will always be someone who will take offence.
