hi my nan keeps saying how she wished you could still buy the pea soup that you could buy years ago. it was the powder form that you just added hot water. does anyone know if this is still available or of any websites that sell the old foods. i have found an old sweet shop but not foods. she has tried the pea soup recipes that are available but they dont taste the same.

Hmm, sounds like a cup-a-soup to me....I'm sure that crazy boy Ainsley Harriott does a pea 'n' ham version.
Yes, it was pea and ham made by batchelors.

To make your own you could include some lardons which are readily available in supermarkets now.
You would need to use dried peas, the ones you soak overnight with a white tablet (which is supplied with them),when cooked they come up like mushy peas. With the lardons added it turns out like a real old fashioned pea and ham soup, lovely and thick.Just add water or milk to make it the consistency of your choice.

Both right answers it was Batchelors Pea and Ham nearest equivalent is Ainsley Harriots Pea and Ham Cup a Soup. Waitroses own tinned Pea and Ham soup is very nice.
The powdered pea soup your nan is talking about is probably made by Symingtons, they've been going for about 150 years! They still make powdered soups and you can get them in Sainsbury's.
