Anti - Depressants.
33 Answers
I've been prescribed Citalopram anti-depressant tablets by my G.P. and I don't know if it is the medication or the depression that is making me feel so ill. I also suffer from Crohns disease. Anyway, I am totally wiped out and lethargic, and suffer silly memory loss, mental blocks.
I tried to claim sickness benefit, as I am now out of work after forty one years, but I couldn't remember things to answer all the questions during a telephone application for help, like my old works number, my kids birth dates etc.
I'm being silly, I know, but I just felt the need to have a good moan on here, before I start punching the wall. again.

Read this from The Message translation...You did it; you changed wild lament into whirling dance; You ripped off my black mourning band and decked me with wildflowers. Im about to burst with song; I cant keep quiet about you. God, my God, I cant thank you enough (Psalm 30:11-12).
You know, fear and/dread can't exist at the same time in a mind full of praise. Scripture says 365 times not to fear... seems that's one per day of the year, no? Must be some significance to that... Shalom, shalom!

Hi Theland,
I know in part what your going through, I suffered from a very deep depression a couple of years ago, came through it, but I have to keep fighting it off.
A friends son came down with Crohns disease, but he came through, as i'm sure you will.
You've got some excellent replies, especially Clanads, that special,
I wish you well my friend, and I will be in contact.

Theland,
I have never suffered from severe depression myself, well not real depression and have never required treatment for it.
I do work with quite a few poeple who suffer from it for one reason or another and it has to be one of the most awful illnesses.
The best advice I can give you is to contact you "Welfare Benefits Agency".
They should be listed under Social Work or Local Council.
They will complete all the forms that you require to be filled in. That is their job and what they are paid to do.
Don't hold back when telling them your problems and all about your illness.
You can also get visits from CPN's who will visit you in your home and listen to you. They will offer any advice and help you get through this.
Good luck.
Keep us posted.

I really do understand what you are going through. I have had severe clinical depression for the last 4 years. I have had many different anti depressants, some didnt work at all, others worked for a short time but now I am on cymbalta which seems to work well. There are over 250 different anti depressants so its not easy to find one that works for you. Once youve found it, you will feel better. Its embarrassing but my memory is terrible and so is my concentration. I am not evenallowed drive now. Please try not to worry too much. You will come through it. Citizens advice may be able to help you fill in the form so will your local benefits office. My best wishes for a speedy recovery
You are not being silly Theland. Depression wipes you out emotionally and mentally. The medication more so before any improvement.
is there anyone who can sit with you or come in with you while you do your signing-on? Please acknowledge that you are not well, and that you are entitled to support of this kind - I don't mean just mean money, I mean a 'friend' who can help your case.
The Crohn's is probably resultant from your stress. Your mind is refusing to remember anything to do with work because of what work did to you.
Walls are OK for punching, and so is jumping hard on big empty cardboard boxes.
You have worked all your life. now you deserve time to heal and become happy again.

i started taking it a week and a half ago and am forgetting silly things too. i dont feel me alot of the time but its stopping me from feeling too negative already so im guessng its helping. because i work in a shop and have to offer the same things all the time i have speeches that i say but recently i get it all jumbled up, for example, half way through serving a customer i said "whose next please" i feel really tired even when iv had a full nights sleep and cant barely stay awake at work.. for the first week i felt really ill in evenings and in the morning but thats gone now.. i dont have much of an appetite but apart from that, the forgetfulness and feeling shattered alot i think its doing something so good luck :)

Theland, bless you hun. I am, too, clinically depressed, and off work. I am 30, yet I do have "lapses" like you. I'll go to the kitchen, and forget why I'm there. I thought it only happened to "older" people, but now I can relate. I'm actually off work with it, so my little embarassments go unnoticed, thank god! lol I am, I think, a very "cerebral" person. I "think" all the time, and try to keep myself healthy, brain-wise. The main issue for me is the lack of control over my thoughts. I can get totally taken over by something, no mater how trivial, and I'll cry over the smallest set back. I always thought of myself as a strong person, so I'm very destabilised by it. But I believe I'll make it through, somehow. And so will you. I'm sending you all my best wishes, and love. Hugs, Morgan. xxx
