A reply to a Parliamentary Question tabled earlier this year indicates that the average custodiall sentence for ABH is 8 months imprisonment. But of course the sentence in any particular case would depend on the circumstances including the severity of the assault and resulting injury. In a mild case, the penalty might be a fine or other non-custodial sentence. At the other end of the scale, the maximum sentence is 5 years.
Does anyone know why this question (and similar ones on GBH) keeps reappearing on this site, are the people to use the site a particularly violent bunch?
Message for Obo (sorry to the person who posted the original question!)... The Answerbank gets very high rankings at search engines like Google. Type in a question there about ABH (or GBH, or Equiba, or songs from adverts, or the Atkinson Diet etc etc) and the chances are you'll be directed here. Which is very nice. And when you arrive here for the first time, your natural reaction is to post the question you want an answer to. Hence we see many questions about similar things. Hopefully once oyu arrive you find the site useful/ interesting and you find yourself asking and answering queestions about other thigs too! (That last bit was for the poster of the original question again!!)
