operations,scans etc.why so expensive?

i have spent a lot of time in hospital having ops,scans,you name it i've had it done.one thing i cant figure out is the cost.i was told a few years ago that a CT SCAN costs about �1000.ive had loads.one op i had cost about �30,000.now,as far as i'm concerned the surgeons,doctors,nurses etc are already being paid to do the job so where do these astronomical costs come into it?damned if i know.does anyone know why?thank you.i dont even know if i've posted this in the correct place!!!

I think you have things slightly skewiff there jaberwocky. When people say ann operation cost so and so, that includes the doctors, nurses, cleaner, hospital bed, stay, food, drugs, instrument cleaning operating thereatre time etc etc.
As for scans, scanners are very epensive!

i had 3 scans privately and the cost was �480, cheap for peace of mind !

well bednobs i hear what yor saying but still cant get my head round it.if a surgeon say gets �150,000 a year surely that is for their normal duties no matter how many ops they carry out.i'd guess your probably right though i just cant see it same way as your good self.

I made enquiries at Bupa for the cost of removing a gallstone by key hole surgery. �5,000! Later when I saw the consultant he said there was no need to remove the stone as it rarely plays up. Phew.
