Car not starting (T reg Astra 1.6 sport)

Hi all,
My car won't start. Or rather, it will start but then dies immediately. Battery is ok (radio, rev dial and petrol thing all come on when ignition is turned). Have tried several times and a couple of times it just wouldn't start at all and the few times it did manage to start (after a few seconds of trying) it revs up once but then won't rev again and dies.
I can't even begin to explain why this is such bad timing but if someone could give me an idea as to what the problem is I would be grateful.

sounds like distributor fault or crank sensor fault a good auto electrician should find the fault quickly
