How much room does a chimney sweep need to do the job?
We have a log burning stove inset into the chimney breast with a small gap of about 30cm above where the flu goes into the base of the chimney. So there are two measurements, how big does the whole for the brush have to be? How much of a brush angle can there be into this hole?
I'd like to seal up the base of the chimney so the only way in is through the hole for the flu. At the moment the base plate is just nailed in position without cement to block the air flow.
We used to have a Victorian fire grate and had it swept once a year. The opening from floor to cowle of the grate was about 30 to 35 cm and the width about 25 to 30cm. This didn't cause any problem for our sweep. Why not contact one local to you for a quote? They are usualy very helpful
