Ohhh...both of you, that's so funny!!
You know montcrieff - seriously, I always wanted a pair of those "jelly" sandals, but wasn't allowed to have any. Not fair! then we went for a day trip to somewhere on the Norfolk coast - think it was Cromer? Anyway, the beach was pebbly and awful - so with faces like sour milk, I was allowed to have my first pair (bright blue - wheee), so that I could go paddling and wouldn't hurt my feet!
Brogues??? The most dreadful things!!!!
Pasta - there MUST'VE been some good shoes about, surely???

Morning Ice honey , yes , my parents always bought Clarks and we had a major trip to the shoe shop when the whole family went for measuring and trying on . xxxxx

We had sensible shoes - I can remember the Clarks sandals with those crepe bottoms. When I went to secondary school we had to wear brown lace ups which were awful!
I got my own back when I was about 13 by refusing to wear shoes at all at home - even going down town - and my mother refused to be seen with me as she thought people would think us too poor to buy any or something!

well sensibly priced footwear for me was baseball boots & black gutties(plimsols).....no choice between adidas,puma etc
