Do i need a telephone line to have Sky TV? Is it only for the On Demand that you need a phone line, in which case if i don't want to use the On Demand i don't need one? Will the Sky work without being plugged into a phone line?

According to this you only need to remain connected to a phone line for 12 months, which is news to me as I thought it was an ongoing requirement. (I believe this is how they send software upgrades, but maybe someone more knowledgeable will have a better answer.)
When I added Sky Multiroom, it took a couple of months to get a phone line connected to the second Sky box and even though I'd been a customer for years prior, I had a couple of letters "reminding" me that the phone line was not connected - so Big Brother IS watching you!

When the engineer came to fit my minidish, he wouldn`t do it until first checking that we had a working BT line.
However I unplugged the connection after he`d gone with no problems, and that was over a year ago.
I haven`t had any BT line at all for the last 6 months, as I changed to cable for phone and broadband.

I had a nightmare with sky I already had a phone line connected but then i asked for sky multi room and was told at the time I did not need an additional line ( hard sell) only to recieve a bill for an additional Ten pounds a month unless I connected to another phone line. apparently if you are watching sky they can detect if you are connected. Im ending my subscription this month anyway there is never anything worth watching.
As others have pointed out, they know if you don't connect to phone line. My socket is in a different room to my TV and I always ran an extension if I wanted to order Box Office but when I got Sky plus and multi room the engineer wouldn't go until he'd run extensions all over the house.
I found it also interfered with my broadband connection so unplugged Sky but got several letters telling me to plug it back in or else. I had to buy broadband filters to overcome the problem.

sgt ... no surprise there then ! you need a filter connected to every device connected to the line (sky also) .... there are only two in the box .... you are supposed to buy the rest.

I know this is a bit of an unconventional answer ... but I guarantee it will work ....
ring sky! I suspect they will know rather than guessing
if you are wrong ... the fitter will walk off site ... and you will still get a bill
