does anyone have any tips for getting dingy-grey looking net curtains white? (I know the answer is to ditch the nets, but it is not practicable at this time).

My wife buys a packet of Glo-White from our local hardware shop and it works great.
First hand wask the nets and rinse them well then let them soak in Glo-White.
Enough... ...I'm beginning to sound like an old woman!!

Spot on, Glo-white does the trick every time. Kinda makes them look blue at first but it wears off when drying

If you don't fancy using Acdo Glo-White net curtain reviver, then you could try what my mum did one year.... tired of greying nets she read something in Good Housekeeping or Woman and Home and decided to soak the nets in tea overnight to make them creamy rather than grey. The result was grey and brown streaked nets. Definitely a designer feature - just not the one she wanted!

You can also soak the nets in Salt, it works.
