Well, I do not want to question the diagnosis of viral tonsillitis, but your symptoms can be explained due entirely to the chicken nugget. Pieces of food often get trapped in a small pouch above the gullet and to the side of the voice box. Coughing to expel the chicken nugget could have caused an area of ulceration in that pouch which your GP would not see without special equipment. The hoarsenss, earache, pain in the neck and headache could well be refered pain from the ulcerated area. It will clear up without treatment. However, I am not disputing your GP's diagnosis.
