Troy and Schliemann myth about stealing the treasures

I read that Shlieman was accused of robbing/taking some of the treasures of Troy for himself ...i was wondering is there any proof to this and if so did any of the treasures surface later around the world....was he a thief???

Remember that Schliemann was operating to the standards of his time when he excavated Troy. Later in his life he became a lot more scholarly and was at the forefront of the movement in archaeological circles to proceed more carefully and to record all stages in the process, even those in which you were not directly interested.

 

At Troy and later at Mycenae he was a glorified treasure hunter and grave robber. His agreement with the Turks to divide the Troy spoils shows that this was not considered as a bad thing, even by officialdom.
