Hi eveyone. I've not posted for quite a while but read all your posts everyday. We have got a beautifull 7 month old German Shepherd { a truelly gentle little boy} He is my total soal mate and i adore him. We decided a few months ago that we would like another and contacted the stud breader around Christmas time and the big day arrived last Saturday!!!! .....OMG.. My life has turned into chaos!!! The new puppy is absolutly georgeous and Jaxon {my 7 month old loves him to bits...but thats the problem. He never gives him a minute. He follows him everywhere andt wants to play the whole time, I know that it is nice that they are like this and i do enjoy them playing BUT they make such racket btween them { the puppy is now 9 weeks old {bless} but i fee totally run off my feet with them. Will someone please tell me that it will get better???? Before i have a breakown!!! How can such a tiny lovely little thing like him cause such mahem? I'm exhausted.......I'm telling myself that things will eventually settle down, but will they? [I am enjoying them both though!!

Hello LOX! Thrilled to bits for you and your new pup! Is Jaxon a child or another dog? Either way you have your hands full definitely!
Give the pup space when he needs it. Not like he'll want to be out your sight for more than 30 seconds!!
You hve made me very broody! We are expecting pictures when you are back on! ;) x

Hi, Thanx for all your replies, Leelapops-Jaxon is a German Shepherd but he is treat like a child ! He is so spoilt, he is really soft, [ even the puppy who we have named Bailey] appears to be in charge of him-he definatly holds his own
Cazxx1 'Good luck tomorrow' I'll think about you! It's really nice seeing them play together but then on the other hand it's mega time consuming keeping an eye on them both cos Jaxon is quite big now and Bailey is so small but Jaxon forgets!!!! I1ll send some photos later, Jaxon is the handsome one and Bailey is the one that looks like a little koala bear. Good luck. Sue x

Although its good they get on, the younger one doesn't know yet when enough is enough so you have to decide for them and give them time apart, or else you will find the baby is not growing enough, as he will be running off any growth. He needs time to rest and sleep, and ideally somewhere away from the temptation on constant play.
If you allow a play time followed by a separate sleep time, then he will get into the routine, but if allowed to constantly play he will get over excited and any goodness you are putting into him will be run off. Its the same with him playing with human kids, he needs time to rest so children should not be allowed to play with the puppy at all times, only at certain dedicated play times.
As for having a new baby GSD, I am soooo jealous. Whats the breeding?

Hi Lankeela. Nice to hear from you, thank you for your advice. I am monitoring play time, we have a small room approx 6ft square which runs off our utility room, we have put up a baby gate and we put him in there with great protest but he is getting more and more use to it. We have to monitor playtime cos otherwise i would go mad. The stud dog is Vador from Rockforcegsd. We also got jaxon from the same breeder. Thank you again for your advice, iit is much appreciated Sue x
Having owned, trained and bred GSD's for some years, my best advice would be to invest in two puppy crates. The crates are NOT to be used as punishment. Instead the puppies should be encouraged (use feed time) to go in their own crates for privacy and time out. This does work. At one point, I had 5 adult GSD's all living in the house. Each dog had it's own crate. With all of the doors left open, they would only use their own bed!
Two young shepherds at the same time, you are brave. ;o) I've kept two years in between all of mine for my own sanity. Congrats to yourself & Jaxon on his Good Citizen Award, good luck with Bailey too.

As an owner of a 14 month old purebred GSD, I know what you mean. You mentioned the problem, but you didn't mention what else goes on with your dog. Do you and your son exercise your puppy by walking him for at least 30m. 2x/day? If not, he will never see you as being in charge and will assume the alpha role. Playtime needs to be done AFTER and ONLY after exercise. This means controlled, calm and submissive walks on a leash. Once that's done, he will begin to see who's the boss and will also calm down in the house. I have my large dog in an apt and have to practice this behavior or my dog will create his own fun, usually at my expense. When he's walked, he's mutch calmer and extremely well behaved. Your puppy will probably always follow your son around. GSD's bond with their humans very strongly. That's why I love them, but you need to get control of your puppy now. He's a strong breed and will fight for status in your home unless you assume that role now. He should be lowest in rank in your home and should know it unconditionally. Best of luck!
