Windows 3.11 Problem

I installed Win 3.11 for workgroups onto a 486 machine last night but when i try to run Windows it hangs - neither mouse or keyboard operates. File manager starts to work but then fails. What have I done wrong?

Where did you get the operating system discs from? Is it legit? If so, then have you tried reinstalling it?
