If you mean overwrite existing data, no, that would have to be a CD-RW.

With some applications you can add data during discrete sessions, before 'closing' or finalising it, after which it's not re-useable.

I use CD-R for backup.

I backup a folder say Monday, and I can backup the same folder (with a different name) to the same CD on Wednesday. And so on every few days.

I have a number of CD-R disks with multiple folders, each of which were added over a number of weeks.

I use Nero 6 to do this. I dont change any of the options, but I believe the ability to write to it more than once is called multisession.

What I CANT do is delete any data that is on the CD-R, but I can ADD more data.

but in reality ... every time you add a session (max of 4?)
the whole cdfs is replaced .... 20-40 MB

and every time you do it you risk bugg*ring up the disc.

just because you can doesn't mean you should .... at least not where backups are concerned. it's ok compiling a music CD ... or with dvd filling one with your recorder ...
but for backups ... it's dodgy because if it fails you don't just loose that days backup.

at 20p for a decent quality disc .... it's safer to splash out
