I tape recorded a telephone conversation with a car dealer during the negotiations to buy a second hand car. The dealer did not know I was recording the conversation.
The statements he made to me have since proven to be complete lies.

Can I present the tape recording to the small claims court as evidence? or could the dealer claim immunity because he was unaware the conversation was recorded

Currently illegal to do so.

However, write a transcript of what was siad and show to your solicitor. He should take this in to account and if the case does not go as you expect he can mention that you have a recording.

Although this can not be played in courts it usually scares them prompting an out of cout settlement.

Many thanks enfable
Hi, I disagree with Enfable. Under sect 70 of the police and criminal evidence act, a conversation can be covertly recorded, if someone knows it is being done and someone consents, that person can be you.
