Email scam

Hi all

just got an email in an account i rarely use from 'nat west' telling me to verify my details. I know it wasn't from them as the typing etc wasn't coherent enough. However I clicked the link and the http address was something totally random. As i clicked the link does this mean that they can get into my PC or am i being stupid?? Also how do they know i have a Nat West account??

They don't know you have a Nat West account,its pure coincidence. I get ones from all sorts of different banks......Halifax,Abbey and Nat West to name 3 I had today.They can't get into your PC by the way but they may now know that your email account is an active one and could send more junk to you.

they don't know that you have a Nat West account. These emails are sent randomly to millions of people in the hope that one will click on the link and fill in the details.
I get these daily from every known bank going (and some I've never heard of!!).
No bank will ask for any details by email - if you are unsure tho log onto your internet bank through the proper http address and any problems with your account will be on there.
Do not use the email link.

They don't know that you've got a NatWest account - they're randomly targetting people in the hope that some will have an account with that bank & will be tempted to open the e-mail.

The scammers will now know that your e-mail address is live.

I'm always getting these, but never click on any them. One told me I'm an African Princess and they wanted my details so they could send me all the money that was due to me! yeah right!!

I had one to a very old, hardly used email account. It told me I had one message waiting and asked me to log in to read. I filled out the details with a fake name, fake date of birth etc. and took great delight in imagining the crooks desperately trying to log in to an account. What's the betting they tried it several times? Glad to have wasted their time !!
