My daughter is on waiting list to go to the school of her choice and we are trying to appeal, as we are out of catchment area. I don't know their postcode and yes I don't really want them to know as they are appealing as well.
The reason I'm not listed in the phone book is to stop any incidence of nuisance calls. It's the same reason I'm not the publicly available electoral roll.
Anyone can buy these and then they have all your details to do with as they please, admittedly it's only usually to try and sell you double glazing, but why take the chance.

A few years ago someone shunted the rear of a work colleagues car. When exchanging details the other party just gave his name and phone number for contact - no address. My colleague phoned on several occasions and each time was greeted with abusive language and then cut off. Desperate to find out the address, we embarked on the following ruse, which, I hasten to add, worked a treat. I phoned the number and when it was answered I assumed what I thought to be a disc-jockeyish voice. "Hi there, is that 234 4567" at the answer "yes", I proceeded with "fantastic. I'm Jonny Romano from Radio XYZ and you sir are today's lucky winner of the random phone number draw. Do you want to know what you've won?" "er..yes please" "well, you've won 100 worth of Marks and Spencer vouchers to spend on whatever you like..lovely food, clothes or maybe something for the home. First of all I need your name and address so that your prize can be posted out to you immediately. It'll go first class so you should receive it in the morning" The stupid man blurted out his name and address and my work colleague, accompanied by a couple of burly acquaintances from the rugby club, paid him a visit that evening.
