For the past few days my hubby has felt a bit light headed and feels a lot of pressure in his ears as if they are going to explode. Any ideas what it could be ?

It could be a number of things such as :-
Low Blood pressure
Sinus infection
Viral infection of the inner ear
Eustachian tube dysfunction
Barotrauma
If it doesn't clear up in the next few days he should have a check up at the doctors.

His blood pressure is ok cos he just had his hgv medical last week. It's difficult to get an appointment as he starts work in the early hours of monday and doesn't get home till late on a friday. He had a really bad cold a few weeks ago so maybe it's just an after effect.
Thanks for that anyway moonshadow

Never heard of barotrauma but just googled it and it sounds exactly what is wrong with him. Brilliant news that it is treated with antihistamines as I have some in the cupboard !
Thanks again moonshadow
Worth trying a decongestant such as Sudafed as well. It's fine to use with antihistamines and, if it's his sinuses and eustachian tubes that are causing the problem, will probably help.

It it doesn't, he should go to his GP - could be an ear infection.
If it is worrying, then he shold see a doctor - OK, a bit of time off work, but better that now than a few days later if it is an infection that may get a bit worse. Not trying to be pessimistic - there may be a moderate infection in any part of the tubes which could become very uncomfortable if left.

See the doc. You would go to the garage if your car was not quite right, and that is all a surgery is - a team of mechanics trained for working on the body.
Trouble with this kind of thing is it could be dangerous in his job too.

I'll get him some sudafed and see if that works. If not he will have to see the doctor.
Thanks SRH and taxman
Jillius please be careful with medications such as Antihistamines and Sudafed as they have a sedative effect. If your husband is driving it would be better to buy the non-drowsy form. I hope he feels better soon.
