can dogs see a tv picture, when they look at a tv do they see what we see or do the just see lights flasting across the screen ?

They defo see a picture. I leave my tv on for my dog as she likes to watch the animal channel. If any animals come on the screen, she runs up to the tv, wags her tail and then tries to look behind the tv to see if the animal is behind it. It is only ever animals that she reacts to.

I used to like to think my dog could see the picture - she used to watch golf for hours - running to the back of the tv to try and retrieve the ball as soon as she heard them make the swing.
She also used to howl along to Foster and Allen adverts - think because they were always sat on a green hill she thought it was along the golfing lines!

My dogs love to see others on TV, and sit in front of it wagging their tails and making friendly noises. It doesn't happen if they see a cat, horse, etc., so yes, I think they can definitely and recognise their own.

My big old rott, Bron used to sit and watch The Incredible Journey from start to finish, he loved it. My daft rott, Boris used to go round the back of the TV when he was watching One Man and his Dog to see where the sheep had gone. Handsome George can see things on TV but the mastiffs as a rule weren't as interested although George keeps having a go at the cheeky pup in the mirror. Don't you just love 'em?

both my cats and dog luv to watch the animal planet too....the cats try to paw @ birds and the dog barks like a maniac @ other dogs on the screen. lol

Not only are dogs and cats able to see pictures clearly on the television, they are also able to distinguish certain tunes from others.

My little Poodle will stop whatever she is doing, when the signature tune for the Antique Road Show comes on. She will sit mesmerised for the whole of the programme. She loves any animal programmes.

I once had a cat who tired himself out, trying to catch the ball, during a football match.

No doubt about it, our pets are more intelligent that we give them credit for.

I certainly believe they can My GS watches all the dog programes nothing else she actually sits with her front paws crossed in front of the TV she use to look behind TV but has given up on that now and is quite happy to just sit she also likes horses. Its very convenient as my husband does not like watching but he is always out voted 2 to 1

they probably might but they wouldnt be able to see the colour because all dogs are colour blind

i have a jack russell dog who will charge the tv when ANY animal is on. i can understand why she might recognize another dog or cat on tv since i own other dogs and cats, but, she will (sound down on tv) charge the tv barking at monkeys, garaffes, kangaroos, or ANY OTHER animal that appears on tv. she's NEVER seen one of those animals in the flesh, so why would a dog react?

as i said, i have other dogs (black lab and a pug) and they DO NOT recognize animals on tv. go figure!?!?!

in fact, my jack russell even reacts to a cartoon animal???
