Hi, just came across your post today so sorry for the delay. It is now impossible for people to become nurses without attending some form of university course to do either a diploma or degree in nursing. You may find some courses part time, but most I have come across are full time. My only advice (after doing a degree myself) is to be sure its what you want todo, explore local possibilities on the internet, wait until your sprog is at school and work like a donkey for three years until you qualify! Plenty of other people in your situation go to uni, so it isn't impossible - just bloody hard! Good luck!
Why not do a HCA1 (health care advisor 1) NVQ. It's similar to an auxilliary nurse. They offer them part time (contact your local health authority I think). Also once you have your NVQ3 as an HCA it coutns as a qualifying entry level for nursing degree...if you choose to do full on nursing later.
