My new Dell Inspiron 1525 is driving me nutty! I have had a few problems with the setup which seemed to be fixed. I now have intermittent problems connecting to the internet. Although the wireless signal excellent when I go to the browser it says there is no internet connection!! I could be in the middle of something and all of a sudden it loses the connection. Now, is this a problem with the laptop or with my router? I am with VirginMedia and have never had problems with the internet in the past 18 months. I have insisted that Dell exchange the laptop, but will I still have the same problems?
Thanks in Advance

have you tried connecting to someone else's wireless connection? do you have a friendly neighbour that would allow you to use their internet briefly to test?

I woudl suspect that Dell will be unwilling to exchange unless it is proven to be faulty however they may want to test the wireless settings first.

if the internet drops but the notebook remains connected to the wireless router then that would suggest an issue between the router and the broadband line. have you rebooted the router recently? sometimes this resolves the issue. It may be worth checking out the router manufacturers website for a firmware upgrade.
think laterally (literally)
reduce the variables - loose the wireless .... connect to the router using wire ...
see what happens

Thanks guys.
I rebooted my router when I couldn't get an internet connection and then it worked again. It happens on a daily basis though, I could be using it for about 3 or 4 hours and then I just lose the connection. I will check Belkin website as suggested.
I will also see what period of time it works for wired.

Dell have confirmed by email that they are sending me a new laptop as they confirmed there was a problem - they checked my computer remotely.. I am very weary they will try to fix it and fob me off with the same one. I'll see what happens....
thanks again.
maybe make a note of the serial number on the bottom of the notebook.

it does sound like a router problem is causing the internet loss though so Dell must have found soemthing else is a problem.
