Home made kiln?

Many years ago I saw a television program where someone fired a pot in a kiln which looked like 4 loosley constructed walls of brick forming an open box into which was put sawdust and the pottery to be fire. Can anybody remember the details or know what sort of quality can be acheived with such a kiln
