What dates are you going and coming back? Roughly what time of day, as this will affect the price.

Hey thanks for the reply. Not got definite date yet, but will be a weekend, more than likely 14 or 15th March, coming back 16th - mid morning both ways. Thanks x
Hiya
Ok, the best options are as follows:

14 March: London Euston to Carlisle depart 1029 arrive 1343.
16 March: Carlisle to London Euston depart 1151 arrive 1636. Standard Saver Return: 87.10

or
15 March: London Euston to Carlisle depart 1103 arrive 1537.
16 March: Carlisle to London Euston depart 1151 arrive 1636. Standard Saver Return: 87.10.

You should be able to buy this ticket in advance at your local train station.
this is an easy to use journey planner by train for you to practice with

http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/

just enter starting destination, end destination, dates etc and it works it all out for you
I use if for local services too!

thank you so much for all the helpful info Superbike, that is a lot cheaper than I was finding, all seemed a bit of a minefield. still think flying to Newcastle is going to be cheaper though than train, how daft is that?! and Weeal I will practice on the site as well. Cheers guys x
If you can get up a little earlier for your return journey (and don't mind just one change of trains), you can get a cheaper fare than Superbike quotes.

Out 14/03/08 at 1029, arriving 1343 (direct). Advance purchase single fare 26.50.

Return 16/03/08 at 0924, arriving 1515. (Change at Leeds. Arrive 1206. Depart 1240). Advance purchase single fare 36.50.

i.e. cheapest return fare (out 14/03, back 16/03) = 63.00

If you travel out on 15/03/08, both the 1017 service (arrives 1451) and the 1103 service (arrives) offer an advance purchase single far of 17.50. The 1017 service requires a change at Birmingham New Street. (Arrive 1150. Depart 1203). The 1103 train is direct.

i.e. cheapest return fare (out 15/03, back 16/03) = 54.00
