If a debt has been passed to a debt collection agency but I'm actively paying it off, will the debt be removed from my credit file as soon as it has been paid or will it continue to show for a number of years?

Also any tips on trying to improve your credit rating?

Debts can stay on your credit record for anything up to 6 years.

The best way to improve your rating is to always pay bills, loan installments, etc on time.
