Last nights programme however did skirt an important issue, those ladies are putting their health at considerable risk, i mean I think one was 41st!!!
Chin up jules, Ill take you for a drink and a nice meal to cheer you up :)
Yes I watched parts of that programme. Personally speaking it doesn't do anything for me, I prefer average size (and not skinny either). Two of my mates go out with larger girls and they are bot very happy. You cannot please all the people all the time, so you might as well just please yourself !! :o)
The issue of 'fat' in our society is interesting. People always allude to Dawn French as an attractive woman, but the sometimes spken, sometimes unspoken proviso is, 'for a fat woman'.
I didn't see all the programme, but it appeared that the men who did find large ladies attractive found their largeness to be the issue, not the lady as an individual, which seems almost a fetish rather than an attraction. Cases have been reported of men who have married large ladies, but then divorced them after they have lost wieght - again adding to the argument that it is their partner's size which provides the attraction, not their partner as a person.
It would be nice if everyone saw the person, not the size, but as a culture we do not, and it facile to pretend that we do, based on the premise of a programme like this, which panders to people's morbid curiosity. If a lady is happy with her size, fine, but I suspect, as you say, that more ladies are unhappy with their size - our society is geared to thin people.
I think that as along as a man is muscular and large then they can carry it off and look good, but flabby overweight doesn't do it for me. I personally don't like to see any very obviously overweight ladies, but equally I wouldn't want to see everyone stick thin. People are surprised when I tell them how overweight I am as they say that I carry it well and it doesn't show, but I still know that it is there., however as my weight has gradually crept on over the years and I really do not want to get to anyway near the size of the ladies in the programme, I will be making some changes to my lifestyle .
SKELLEN thanks for the offer, if I ever get fed up of my skinny husband I'll let you know :)
i'm 5ft2 and 12 stone, to look at me you wouldnt think it, the doctor didnt even belive the scales. he explained his surprise as, muscle is heavier than fat. so all this time when iv been looking in the mirror that bulge over the top of my jeans must be my 6 pack!! but as to the programme, everyone one is different and everyone has the right to be different, each to their own etc, but when it starts to get dangerous to your health or anyone elses its wrong.
but still if everyone was the same it'd boring and yet we as a society find uniquness- spelling? - as wierd and something to make fun of. who knows maybe we should all wear rose tinted glasses....
Hi folks
I took part in the Chubby Chasers programme and I have to say that I was glad I did.
I've read all the comments on her - quite a mixed reaction as expected. Most of the contributors 'assume' that these women are about to keel over with a heart attack, and as one of those women, I must take exception.
I'm a size 32, I weigh about 23 stone and yes, I am genuinely happy - if I do have any niggles or regrets, believe me, it has nothing to do with my size - I'm too busy running my own business, spending time with friends, meeting new people and achieving my life goals to give it too much thought - which I think it what life should be all about.
I know quite a few women who took part and its all too easy to assume these women are unhappy and just putting on a front. I have always said that the only reason you will regret being fat is if you let it stop you from living your life, and most of the women I know are certainly not letting their size hold them back - thank goodness!
If you don't find big men/women attractive, that's fair enough - different strokes for different folks. Someone spoke of men leaving their wives because they lost weight, but what about the thousands upon thousands of men who have left their wives because they have put on weight - are they not just as shallow about the size of their women?
