The Guardian special supplement on San Serriffe in 1977. Page after page on the Indian Ocean republic celebrating its tenth year of independence together with a map and its future commercial prospects. The following year there was nothing. The entire newspaper was avidly scoured to no avail until we noticed, buried in a sort of Court Circular item the fact that HM The Queen would be greeting the new ambassador from San Serriffe. The map on its own was a giggle - every feature related to printing in some way or other - e.g. a marsh in the centre of the island was The Woj of Type and the capital (on the island of Upper Caisse) was Bodoni.
