I've bollixed mine by spilling beer over it and not realising til the next evening.  I'm still waiting for a replacement that may never come.  Has anyone tried those universal remotes?  If so, are they any good?

I bought a cheap one after having a similar mishap, and it was rubbish - it stopped working after about a month, but then it was a very cheap one. What brand and model is you DVD player? Cpc stock quite a few replacement remotes for major brand players, but they're mostly not on the web catalogue and you have to look through the paper one.

Alternatively there's a guy in Leeds market with a dustbin full or remote controls at ~50p a shot.

yeah i had a simlilar experiance, bought one most of the buttons wern't doing the correct thing and it stopped working after about a month too

Thanks, I don't think I'll try one then!  My machine is a Yakumo XL2, it's that cheap that if all else fails I'll buy another one!  I did phone the supplier but I'm not holding my breath!

try taking it apart and cleaning the rubber key pad and the circuit board with warm soapy water then leave it in the airing cupboard overnight .i think theres a good chance it will still work.

Unfortunately they do not stock replacement controls for yours, probably with it not being a mainstream brand. If you had two the control would do both of them, so you could put one in another room.. I think (going by the fact friends have them) the higher end of multi-control thingys work but the cheap ones are to be avoided. You could just take it back and say the control stopped working on it's own, that's what I did with my FreeView box.

I have a "one for all" remote that cost around 30 2 yeaers ago (6 in 1). I have run my Sony DVD and changed last year to a Onkyo DVD player - the Sony was easy to set up and worked fine. When I changed to the Onkyo, I rang up the One For All freephone number and they gave me a number to install and programmed my remote over the telephone.

Would say that they are more expensive but work brilliantly!
