Lurcher/anaesetic
1 Answers
8yr old Lurcher Ossie had anaesetic on Weds for X-ray to investigate rear leg limp and also had a Cortisone injection for possible cruciate tear.
He has had 2 anaesetics in the past with no problem, although we understand (having previously had a whippet) that this procedure can be difficult for the hounds.
This time he apparently had a severe reaction on coming round - one second he was flat out - the next he was wide awake and very agitated. This resulted in a black eye, bitten tongue etc. However, since returning home on Weds afternoon he will not stop whining. He is not off his food, although not so keen as usual. Almost every exhale is accompanied by a whine. The vet visited yesterday and said he could only put it down to stress, and gave him a light sedative. However, he is still the same this morning.
The vet also said he would be reluctant to put him under anaesetic in future.
Any thoughts on why he is whining so much and is there anything we can do. Many thanks. JMM

I would leave well alone and carry on as normal, remember he could have more pain because of the way they examined him while he was "out" and feeling sorry for himself, probably enjoying the fuss as well!.
