Hiya weeal, get on to your landlord straight away, lights are normally on a 5 or 6 amp fuse or mcb, they should not be on a 15 amp one, was it just the lights that went out?
Question Author
hi thanks, for looking Ray

yeah the wire in the 5amp pins which had blown had actually been 15amp, ive kept the burned out wire !
i have today replaced the halogen bulb which had blown and the fitting works ok and everything looks fairly normal again, just really worried after what Whickerman said
Hiya, so it was a 15 amp wire put into a 5 amp fuse then?
Question Author
yes and it blew with just a 50w halogen bulb !

the guy in the electric store said these bulbs are double fused so that shouldnt have happened and told me that fuse wire setup such as this is no longer legal ? dunno - had so many probs with landlord lately that i darent go there unless necessary lol
Ok, well as long as you have replaced the wire with a 5amp wire all will be ok, the white ones always have 5amp, the blue 15, yellow 20amp amd red 30 amp, as long as you have 5 amp wire on the lighting, you are safe, hope what I have put is clear, sometimes I don't explain it very well xx
Question Author
ok ray, thanks a lot
will sleep easy tonight lol

Al xx
Thats good, if it keeps blowing, get it checked, the only thing you have to remember is, to never put a bigger fuse wire in than what it should be, thats what causes problems, take care and sleep well xx
Well to be honest weal I dont think you should take to much notice of the bloke in the store as he does not really seem to know what he is talking about to much.
Question Author
knobby, the bloke in the store was cute and he gave me the new bulbs free (followed by his card) lol
