we have these trees growing in our garden close to our garage walls could they do any damage to the brickwork or foundations

As long as they are about 18" from the wall they should be alright. How high are they now?

I personally being a fully qualified Horticulturalist would suggest removing these trees, Its not the tree that is as much the problem its actually the roots which can cover a large distance and therefore would no doubt cause damage to your garage. Also not only may your garage be affected but also any plants/shrubs or flowers you have in your garden may also suffer as the seeds and any fallen foilage will turn the soil acidic.

One problem with leylandii is that they grow extremely rapidly and soon get out of control so unless you're prepared to prune them back every year they'll soon get to the point where you'll need to call in tree surgeons who will charge you a fortune. Also, they suck a great deal of moisture and nourishment out of the surrounding soil and you may find that nothing will grow properly anywhere near them.
I wouldn't risk your garage foundations because their roots can spread quite a distance, if they haven't already. . If you want something to screen your garage wall there are lots of other climbing plants which will do the job better - and more decoratively.
