Right my Nannie and grandad were bakers.I can still the bakehouse yet.

Every area has their own name for cakes.

Remember for example the cone shaped sponge one with red jam and coconut and a cherry on top -what did you call that?

We used to call cakes in general 'puffie toots'

What names did you have for popular cakes?

I have always called the cake by it's name!

Cant remember the flavour of the top, marzipan ?
Can't say I had pet names for cakes, but my Grandmother (still sprightly for 90 odd) makes the best Dundee cake outside of Dundee.

She feeds it with some alcohol for weeks (I think Cognac, but not sure) and meticulously places roasted almonds as decor.

Fantastic in every way.

Suppose like Eccles cake fom Eccles (is there an Ecles ?) are probably rubbish as well.

Just like Scones from Scone are probably rubbish as well- lol
