45 minutes per side 45 x 2 = 90

They do allow a little lee-way in case your recording runs over, but don;t chance it. You should be alright for 46 minutes, but beyond that is pushing it.

Use a DVD recorder as tapes sound crap....

i would use something better but i need it to be timed and without pressing any buttons as play would be pressed down all the time and when the timer comes on it would play

If it's sound quality you're referring to, I have to disagree with you PB.
When using something like a Nakamichi cassette recorder, they were up there with the best of the formats. As good as LPs and even better than some reel-to-reel tape recorders.
You had to use top quality tape of course.
Tape head wear was an issue if you played them a lot, so it was not long after that CD technology came along and took over from them, as there's no physical contact with the playing surface. I still use a cassette player occasionally.

Yes, that is right, 90 minutes in total, but you can get 60 minute and occasionally 120 minute ones. They should all say the running time on the side, although tapes are getting rarer.

though if you check the manual for pretty much any tape deck (yeah like anybody would still actually have the manuals for a tapedeck;)) they will normally recomend not using 120min tapes as the tape had to be so thin to get that much tape into the cassette it streched very easily.
