Is it possible for files that haven't been opened recently to appear in the list of recently opened files in the 'File' menu of most Windows programmes? I've noticed at work that some old files on my machine have been opened, but I haven't opened them and everyone else denies all knowledge. There's nothing worrying me about what people might see or anything other than work in them, but I just wondered. Thanks.

it is possible, but hugely unlikely,if you really know what your doing you can modify the recently opened file list for most applications, but if anyone is putting those files in the recently opened list for any application without actuallly opening them it would be a really strange thing to do.

If somebody knows how to modify those details then they would probably be doing it to hide what they have opened, not to show files that have not been opened.

simple answer, if they show up in recent files anywhere then they have been opened by someone recently

Thanks for that, was beginning to get paranoid but I know for sure that I haven't opened them. Must be the boss doing a patrol to make sure we're all doing stuff we should be doing. Good job I don't come on here when I'm at work.
