I have just come back from attending a job interview (with 4 interviewers no less aaaahhhh) for a job that sometimes involves taking blood from horses in order to research horse DNA viruses etc.  The job revolves around tackling horse flu and is at a leading company but is mostly based in the lab.  I would be a junior lab technician and i really want the job!!  The problem is that one of the interviewers asked if i was horsey and in a roundabout way i sort of said not really! o you think Ive thrown any prospects of getting this job out of the window?

Not necessarily, since you will be working in a lab it may not matter.  Maybe they were asking just in case you were absolutely terrified of horses and couldn't go near them to obtain blood samples.  Good luck, and stop worrying!

I would seriously hope that you will be judged on your merits and quals as a lab technician and not a horsey type!

maybe they asked that in case you get too attached to the horses? i shouldn't think it matters at all, if you can do the job.

I would agree with everyone else so far.  Look at it this way - if it was important that you were a horsey type then it would be the wrong job for you anyway.

It's hard to define horsey! I always imagine horsey people to own horses or ride them frequently. For the job, I imagine they would just need someone who is comfortable around horses. Horses can be highly strung and often need gentle, calm handling. In the interview, they should have been more clear about what they were asking! If in the worst case scenario they don't offer you the job, I would ask them why you weren't offered it. Good luck though, and the fact that you really want the job, hopefully that showed in the interview. Hope you get it :o)

Isn't it when you have a sore throat?

:o)

Dreadful!!!! Octavius, you're not a comedian, get outta here ;o)

Is the situation appropriate for calling the interviewer in a week or two (or whatever amount of time he may have specified) and checking back about the interview and have they filled the position yet etc? This shows more initiative and sometimes has helped me above others. But I know that sometimes this just isn't appropriate.
Anyway, I think the question was guided more towards finding out if you are too into horses rather than not enough.
I agree you've gone for a scientific post not one that involves trotting about all day! You're based in the lab and it shouldn't matter whether you're looking at horse blood, dog blood or human blood - you're there to reseacrh viruses. Good Luck, let us know and like Yinzer says give it a week or so and phone back, make sure they know you want the job.
