I wasn't to sure which section to put this in so sorry in advance if this is the wrong one.
A couple of weeks ago my girl friends accidentally left her personal email account open on her work computer. When she got to work the following morning she found copies of her emails in the printer. She knows her manager was the only person in the building the previous night around the time that the prints were made. He has since admitted to other employees about going through her emails and knowing that she was going for job interviews with other companies. She has handed in her notice this week and was immediately put on gardeners leave. The company refused to let her take her personal possessions with her when she was escorted out of the building. They are now refusing to let her come to the building to collect her pay cheque for last month and her notice period.
I'm looking for two answers here.
1) What if anything can she do about her manager going through and printing copies of her personal emails? Is this illegal?
2) What can she do about the company effectively refusing to pay her for her last month of work and her notice period?
Thanks for any advice that can be give

The company probably has some kind of internet usage policy with may have forbidded the accessing of personal email however, there are data protection laws that should prevent anyone printing off email

They can post her cheque/payslip to her. If they dont then she could make a claim for the money through the small claims court.
Should she have been using the company computer for personal use? Probably not. Should she have left her email account open? No. Was it right of someone to print off the emails? Morally, no. Its not a data protection thing, its just a bit daft on her part. She can claim for the money she's owed though.
